John Lovelock - Chief Executive
John has been with the Federation Against Software Theft since December 2002, having run his
own business and several others at Managing Director and General Manager levels
for twelve years in the UK after many years in business in South Africa.
He is Chairman of the Alliance Against Intellectual Property Theft’s Digital Group,
which comprises the music, film, games, publishing and copyright licensing industry sectors,
and is responsible for lobbying Government on law changes to protect their members rights,
as well as education and profile of the digital content industry.
From his knowledge gained in the IT Sector and legal issues surrounding IT Compliance within
The Federation, coupled with a vast experience in commercial businesses, John offers a
down-to-earth, entertaining, succinct blend to presentations.
Julian Heathcote Hobbins - Senior Legal Counsel
Julian Heathcote Hobbins is The Federation’s Senior Legal Counsel. Prior to joining FAST in July 2001, Julian worked as a solicitor and gained experience in intellectual property law at the City law firm Theodore Goddard (now Addleshaw Goddard) working with Anti Copying In Design (ACID).
Julian is responsible for The Federation’s enforcement activities and is active in lobbying for improvement to copyright law with The Federation Legal Advisory Group (FLAG), which consists of 25 of the leading law firms. As a previous convenor of the Internet Enforcement Group, Julian has cyber-pirate investigative experience including tracing and website removal using specialist software. Julian was involved in the launch of ReportIT, a unique browser based plug-in which allows the automatic reporting of pirate websites and led Operation Red where police conducted a raid, made arrests and seized evidence following allegations of code theft.
Julian also presents on legislation relating to software, e-mail and Internet law, including the preparation of in-house policies, together with issues such as risk of defamation, data protection, copyright and direct marketing issues.
