The Federation retains an in-house legal team to combat the rise in software theft whether by commercial organisations or others.
The team's function is to investigate breaches of the civil and criminal law that protect software. It is staffed by investigators with legal backgrounds who have knowledge of the industry. The Federation also takes action to pool evidence for presentation in Court.

The Federation Against Software Theft Limited may enter the premises of a corporate.

It may rely on a power of attorney from a software publisher member, or present information to the police who The Federation may accompany or as attendant to a civil search order usually if there is evidence of serious misuse of software within an organisation.
